We view the 1977 Kentucky football team as quite possibly their best team in history. Our guest this week is Linebacker Kelly Kirchbaum who played at Kentucky from 1975-1978. He also played against Penn State in each of his four years in Lexington. Kentucky had a very good football team in 1976, playing seven Top 20 teams (defeating four), which culminated in a Peach Bowl win. They were an outstanding team in 1977, finishing with a 10-1 record, but unfortunately were on probation and ineligible for bowl competition. Kelly went 2-2 vs. Penn State and reviews those games with us. He also had a nice career in the USFL with the Tampa Bay Bandits. Enjoy this look back to the "Heyday" of Kentucky football and hopefully you will come away appreciating how good the Wildcats were in 1976 and 1977.
