Talking College Football History: Fred O’Connor

Coach Fred O'Connor joins us this week on the show. Fred coached football for over 60 years at all levels of the game. After coaching at the high school level, Fred had stints at Villanova, Maryland, Southern Mississippi and back to Villanova. He then teamed up with Coach Jack Pardee and coached in the World Football League in 1974, then with the Chicago Bears (1975-1977), San Francisco 49ers (1978) and Washington Redskins (1979-1980). He also coached in the Canadian Football League in 1981. After that he coached at Catholic University and then kick-started the Florida Atlantic program with Howard Schnellenberger. Fred was an offensive coach that had the privilege to coach a few of the greatest running backs to ever play the game: Walter Payton, O.J. Simpson and John Riggins. Join us as Fred talks about his coaching days and shares some great stories.
