Steve Davis joins me on the podcast this week and what a story he is. Steve came out of Overbrook High School in Philadelphia and walked on at Penn State in 1969. Overbrook High School is well known as it produced Wilt Chamberlain and many other basketball players, but not so much for football. Steve worked his way up the depth chart and ended up starting his senior year in 1972 as a defensive back. Penn State lost the first game at Tennessee in 1972, then ran the table to end up 10-1 in the regular season. John Cappelletti was the starting tailback, but he was sick during the 1972 Sugar Bowl and unable to play. Penn State ended up losing that game, but Steve talks about what an experience it was. Penn State was close to 5 undefeated seasons in 6 years from 1968-1973 and Steve reminisces about this time at Penn State.
