Talking Penn State Football History: Rod Bratton

Our guest this week is probably not a household name among Penn State football fans, but he has a great story to share. Rod Bratton joins us this week. Rod did not play football until his senior year in high school as his school was one of the smallest in the state of PA (Rothrock High School in McVeytown). However, Mifflin County combined all 4 schools to form Penn Highlands High School and competed at the highest classification in football. Rod played for Penn Highlands during his senior season and was recruited to Penn State. He played at Penn State from 1971-1974, but never played much. Rod talks about his journey to Penn State, the importance of playing on the "scout team" and the value of a Penn State education. He also discusses his Christian faith and how it helped him through some difficult times. Most fans don't realize what goes into preparing an outstanding football team each week and the "scout team" gets very little credit for helping to get the starting units ready to play each Saturday. Rod Bratton's story legitimizes the role of a reserve player on a top college football team.
