We have a different take on Sports Authors Showcase this week. There hasn't been a biography written about our guest, Jake O'Donnell, but there should be. Jake was a longtime NBA official from 1967-1995, but most people don't know that he was also an American League umpire from 1967-1971. He actually umpired 2nd base in the famous 1971 All-Star game which featured 26 future Hall-of-Famers and was the game where Reggie Jackson hit a towering home run that hit the transformer on the roof of Tiger Stadium. We conducted an interview with Jake about his baseball career as a segment of Back When There Was Baseball. In this podcast we focus on his basketball career: some of the great games he was part of, officials he worked with and players/coaches he officiated for. Jake officiated in 2,134 NBA games, 279 NBA Playoff games and 40 NBA Finals games. Sit back and listen to Jake share some of his experiences as an NBA official.
