We are privileged to speak with “Sudden” Sam McDowell this week on Back When There Was Baseball. Sam had a storied career, pitching from 1961-1975 in both the American and National Leagues. He was part of one of the greatest pitching staffs in the history of the game, the 1968 Cleveland Indians. All four starters had ERAs under 3, but Sam and Luis Tiant were under 2. Sam has a second story to tell, which took place after his playing career was over. Listen in to this outstanding interview with one of the best pitchers in the 1960s through the early 1970s.
