I look back at Penn State's first national championship this week with my guest Bill Contz. Bill arrived at Penn State in 1979 from Belle Vernon High School near Pittsburgh. He escaped the clutches of Jackie Sherrill and the staff at Pitt to migrate to Happy Valley. Bill was a tall lanky kid and didn't take long to see playing time on the offensive line. Penn State played the toughest schedule in the nation during Bill's junior and senior years (1981-1982) while winning a national championship in 1982. We also discussed the Penn State/Pitt rivalry during his years at Penn State. Bill was drafted in the 5th round of the 1983 NFL Draft and played through the 1988 season.
