SiriusXM has announced a new, exclusive podcast agreement with Dirty Mo Media, the multimedia content platform of NASCAR Hall-of-Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. The deal brings both exclusive advertising and distribution rights to Dirty Mo’s impressive slate of programming to the SiriusXM Podcast Network, as well as unique opportunities for exclusive-to-SiriusXM crossover events between Dirty Mo and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Earnhardt Jr.’s own podcast, “Dale Jr. Download,” will begin airing twice a week on the SiriusXM NASCAR Radio channel starting in early June. Additionally, the two companies will collaborate on several special event broadcasts throughout the year, including at the Daytona 500.

“This is a great day for our company,” said Earnhardt Jr. “This agreement allows us to continue producing the shows we want to produce and telling the stories we want to tell to an audience that values our brand of originality, passion and candor.

“This also brings my relationship with SiriusXM full circle. I first started hosting my own show nearly two decades ago on XM Satellite Radio. We did it for a couple years. Since then, nothing has changed other than I’m now a married father of two, I don’t race as much, XM is called SiriusXM, and I am bringing an entire media company back with me.”

Founded in 2013 by Earnhardt and executive producer Mike Davis, Dirty Mo Media emerged as perhaps the most influential platform in motorsports thanks in large part to Earnhardt’s rise to podcast prominence. In addition to building the podcast network, the company created and produced the TV/streaming series “Lost Speedways” in which Earnhardt visited and explored abandoned race tracks across America. Dirty Mo Media is now involved in the newly announced documentary series on Dale Earnhardt Sr. by Prime Video and Imagine Documentaries.

“One of our main areas of emphasis over the past year has been increasing our collaborations and expanding relationships,” said Davis. “A lot of that is simply knowing who we are, what we are trying to be and where we can be most effective. For Dirty Mo Media, we are a relatable, personality-driven brand of content creators and documentarians. Combine that with the reach, resources and credibility of SiriusXM, this relationship will produce fruit and serve our fans well.”

SiriusXM Media, the company’s advertising division, gains exclusive global ad sales rights to Dirty Mo Media’s slate of sports podcasts, including “Dale Jr. Download," "Actions Detrimental with Denny Hamlin,” “Door Bumper Clear,” and more. These podcasts join the SiriusXM Podcast Network’s growing stable of sports programming, which, alongside SiriusXM’s incredible sports radio lineup, allows marketers to reach more passionate sports fans at scale. The SiriusXM Podcast Network reaches 1 in 2 podcast listeners in the US each month.

“We are very excited to team up with Dale Jr. and the team at Dirty Mo to bring several of the leading NASCAR podcasts into the SiriusXM Podcast Network,” said Sarah Van Mosel, SiriusXM’s SVP of Podcast Strategy.  “This not only bolsters the strength of our podcast offerings, but the addition of the ‘Dale Jr. Download’ to the SiriusXM NASCAR Radio channel enhances the programming available to our SiriusXM subscribers. This is another great example of the unique ways SiriusXM and talented creators like Dale and his team can work together.”

Dirty Mo Media joins the unparalleled lineup of podcasts and media companies represented exclusively by SiriusXM Media, including: “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” and the complete Team Coco roster; SmartLess Media and its hit show “SmartLess” from Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes; Ashley Flowers’ audiochuck and its chart-topping “Crime Junkie;” Crooked Media and its flagship “Pod Save America;” and many more; in addition to SiriusXM’s own award-winning shows such as “The Mel Robbins Podcast” and “How Did This Get Made?”

Podcasts play a central role in the new SiriusXM app, which features transcription, playback speed adjustment, key moment markers, auto downloads, and an expanded library, with more to come in future releases. With discovery at the heart of the listening experience, SiriusXM offers a new platform for Dirty Mo’s hosts to engage and connect with fans and listeners.

About Dirty Mo Media

Dirty Mo Media is the original entertainment and creative production company of Dale Earnhardt Jr. The company was founded in 2013 as a way for the 16-time NASCAR Most Popular Driver to have direct-to-consumer communication with fans. Since then, the platform has grown in reach and significance by expanding its programming lineup with dynamic, credible personalities, all while staying true to Earnhardt’s brand of honesty and transparency.

NASCAR took home honors for ‘Event of the Year’ for the first-ever Chicago Street Race during the 2024 Sports Business Awards, a ceremony hosted by Sports Business Journal in New York City last evening to celebrate the best in sports business over the past year.

The award, which highlights the most outstanding events in sports, was recognition for one of the most ambitious events in NASCAR history. The Chicago Street Race, a first-of-its-kind two-day sports and entertainment event, saw stock cars take to city streets for the first time in the sport’s 75-year history, resulting in extraordinary levels of fan engagement, including more than 80% of ticket buyers attending a NASCAR event for the first time; the most-watched Cup Series race on NBC in six years; and an economic impact of more than $108.9 million for the local Chicago community.

“We’re incredibly proud of the first-ever Chicago Street Race, and we’re honored to have Sports Business Journal recognize it as the ‘Event of The Year’,” said Steve Phelps, President, NASCAR. “Following the leadership of Ben Kennedy, Julie Giese and many others, the entire NASCAR industry and the city of Chicago banded together to pull off something truly extraordinary that has opened up an entirely new world of possibility for this sport moving forward. We can’t wait to get back to Chicago for the second running this July.”

In approximately 12 months lead-time, NASCAR established an event that was not just a race in Chicago but was an event about and for Chicago – an opportunity to showcase the best of one of the world’s most recognizable cities on a global scale. From local artists designing the race-winning trophies to becoming ingrained in the community through local partnerships with organizations like Chicago Public Schools, Special Olympics of Illinois, the Art Institute of Chicago, After School Matters and All Kids Bike, NASCAR quickly became a pillar of the community and invested nearly $2 million in local initiatives throughout Chicago.

What’s more, NASCAR immediately established a new, permanent Chicago office in Nov. of 2022 immediately following the announcement that NASCAR would be coming to the city. Led by longtime executive and track president Julie Giese, the office currently has nearly 20 full-time employees, all of whom live and work year-round in the community.

The NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series will once again take to the streets of Chicago, along with musical performances by Keith Urban, The Chainsmokers, The Black Keys, Lauren Alaina, and a special House Music 40th Anniversary Showcase, for year two of the event on July 6-7, 2024.

Joining the Chicago Street Race as finalists for the ‘Event of the Year’ award were the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, NHL Stadium Series, Super Bowl LVIII, U.S. Open Tennis Championships, and the World Baseball Classic.

As part of the ceremony, NASCAR was also recognized as a finalist for ‘League of the Year’, and NASCAR’s new media rights deal was a finalist for ‘Deal of the Year’

Ten nominees appeared on the Modern Era ballot, which was selected by the traditional Nominating Committee. The same committee selected the five Landmark Award nominees. The Class of 2025 was determined by votes cast by the Voting Panel, including representatives from NASCAR, the NASCAR Hall of Fame, track owners from major facilities and historic short tracks, media members, manufacturer representatives, competitors (drivers, owners, crew chiefs), recognized industry leaders, a nationwide fan vote conducted through NASCAR.comand the last two NASCAR Cup Series champions (Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson). In all, 62 votes were cast, with two additional Voting Panel members recused from voting as potential nominees for induction (Jeff Burton and Ricky Rudd). The accounting firm of EY presided over the tabulation of the votes.

Rudd received 87% of the Modern Era ballot votes, Edwards received 52%. Harry Gant finished third, followed by Jeff Burton and Harry Hyde. Ralph Moody received 60% of the Pioneer ballot votes. Ray Hendrick finished second.

Results for the NASCAR.com Fan Vote were: Ray Hendrick (Pioneer); Carl Edwards and Harry Gant (Modern Era).

The two inductees came from a group of 10 nominees that included: Greg Biffle, Neil Bonnett, Tim Brewer, Jeff Burton, Randy Dorton, Carl Edwards, Harry Gant, Harry Hyde, Ricky Rudd and Jack Sprague.

Nominees for the Pioneer Ballot included: Ray Hendrick, Banjo Matthews, Ralph Moody, Larry Phillips, Bob Welborn.

Nominees for the Landmark Award included Alvin Hawkins, Lesa France Kennedy, Dr. Joseph Mattioli, Les Richter, Dr. Dean Sicking.

Future of Stewart-Haas Racing in doubt; sale could affect charter prices

[Noah] Gragson was the only SHR driver to make the all-star main event, something for the organization to at least feel good about. With Stewart-Haas Racing’s plans for 2025 in limbo and drivers and crew members indicating the real possibility of the team selling all four of its Cup charters, even the drivers admit to having no idea what’s happening.

Stewart-Haas Racing Chief Operating Officer Joe Custer politely declined comment Sunday afternoon on the SHR team plans for 2025. Custer, father of SHR’s Xfinity Series driver Cole Custer and who has worked with team co-owner Gene Haas for decades, is the team executive who has primarily been at the track this year.

This situation is not a surprise. SHR has been a team in transition all year. It lost major sponsors Smithfield (which left the sport) and Busch Light (which went to Trackhouse Racing and Ross Chastain after the retirement of Kevin Harvick). Its deal with Ford Motor Company for support also ends after this season and there has been no announcement of any renewal — typically those announcements are made by this time.

According to team employees, SHR executives have indicated they hope to let them know in the next couple of weeks of their plans. It is possible that the team keeps its two-car Xfinity program (where Custer and Riley Herbst currently drive) as well as its business of supplying Xfinity cars to other teams (such as Sieg Racing).

NASCAR charter prices have been on an upward trend the last several years, but that march could be halted – at least temporarily – if Stewart-Haas Racing unloads several of them over the coming months as expected, according to industry executives familiar with the matter. The assets, which are NASCAR’s version of franchising for teams, have risen from being worth just a couple million dollars in the opening years of the system to the most recent sale — a purchase last year by Spire Motorsports from Live Fast Motorsports — being for a number that approached $40M last year.

With the possibility SHR could sell as many as all four of its charters, supply has shot up in the charter market at the same time that teams have yet to strike a new revenue sharing agreement with NASCAR

Those factors are depressing prices at least temporarily, sources said. SHR could sell each charter for between $20-30M apiece, industry sources familiar with charter market dynamics said in recent weeks. Still, the same people said that fresh record highs for charters can still be established in the coming years as an improved revenue sharing agreement between the team and NASCAR Holdings gets locked in during the coming months and as the remaining charters that are available for purchase become more scarce.

Amazon Prime Video to feature documentary on Dale Earnhardt, Sr. next year

Prime Video greenlit several sports documentaries as part of the inaugural Amazon upfront presentation today, including a four-part documentary series on NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr. The history of the Earnhardt family is the history of NASCAR—you can’t tell the story of one without the other—and at the center of the Earnhardt family was Dale Earnhardt Sr., the most influential figure the sport has ever known. A charismatic, working-class hero to millions of fans, Earnhardt spent the better part of two decades as the most visible figure in stock car racing, breaking through the confines of the sport’s regional fan base to mainstream notoriety, racking up millions in endorsement deals from Coca-Cola to Wheaties, and appearing on daytime TV and late-night talk shows. From one generation to the next, racing would bring the Earnhardt family together, but it wasn’t always an easy road. Now, with unparalleled access and never before seen archival material, the Untitled Earnhardt Documentary promises a profound, revealing, and definitive account of a historic American family.

Presented by Prime Video, the Untitled Earnhardt Documentary is produced by Imagine Documentaries, NASCAR Studios, and Everyone Else, in association with Dirty Mo Media. The series is executive produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Sara Bernstein, and Justin Wilkes of Imagine Entertainment; Matt Summers and Tim Clark of NASCAR Studios; and TJ Martin, Dan Lindsay, and Tony Mayhoff.

National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, LLC (“NASCAR”) has announced it will hold a first-of-its-kind in-season tournament for the NASCAR Cup Series™ in 2025. The seeding for the bracket-style head-to-head event across TNT Sports’ full five-race schedule will be set by results from the final three races that will air on Prime Video.

“With the launch of our new media rights partnerships in 2025, we were excited to partner with Prime Video and TNT Sports to collaborate on fan engagement concepts that drive storylines in our sport and innovation from a production perspective,” said Brian Herbst, NASCAR SVP, Media and Productions. “The idea of an in-season tournament has been discussed within the NASCAR industry and as we started to focus on adding promotional elements that drive interest throughout the season, we were excited by the opportunity to leverage the marketing weight of Amazon and TNT Sports to bring this concept to life.

“Having head-to-head driver matchups for each one of TNT’s NASCAR Cup Series races will add a compelling fan engagement element across media platforms like TNT, Bleacher Report, House of Highlights, and NASCAR digital platforms.”

All drivers are eligible for the seeding races which will take place during the final three races of Prime Video’s coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series. The top 32 drivers based on the seeding events, will become eligible for the in-season tournament competition. Bracket seeding will be established by best finish in each race over the three races with the tiebreakers determined by the next-best finish, followed by season points position.

The tournament kicks off with the first event in the TNT Sports portion of the NASCAR Cup Series season. Drivers will compete head-to-head with the higher finishing driver of each race advancing over five rounds. The winner of the tournament will receive a $1 million prize.

“It’s never been a better time to be a fan of motorsports, and this new first-ever in-season tournament will bring a new competitive dynamic to NASCAR’s summer race weekends,” said Craig Barry, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer, TNT Sports. “TNT Sports has always been at the forefront of creativity and innovation, and NASCAR is a perfect partner to bring this vision to life across our networks and platforms.”

“We’re excited to be part of NASCAR’s first in-season tournament next season,” said Charlie Neiman, Head of Sports Partnerships, Prime Video. “This tournament will showcase the league’s ability to drive innovation and engage fans with increased competition during a key part of the NASCAR schedule.”

In November 2023, NASCAR reached new seven-year media rights agreements for the NASCAR Cup Series with four best-in-class distribution partners – FOX Sports, NBC Sports, Amazon’s Prime Video and TNT Sports, a division of Warner Bros. Discovery – to deliver live coverage of all 38 NASCAR Cup Series races, beginning in 2025 and extending through the 2031 season.

Prime Video and TNT Sports will evenly split a series of 10 midseason races. Both also own the exclusive rights to select practice and qualifying sessions for the NASCAR Cup Series schedule through 2031.

NASCAR’s first fully direct-to-consumer partner, Prime Video will stream practice and qualifying live for the first half of the season through their last race of the midseason series with the exceptions of the Busch Light Clash, DAYTONA 500® and NASCAR All-Star Race™, which remain on FOX Sports.

TNT Sports will initiate its coverage with the next five midseason races, all part of the NASCAR Cup Series in-season tournament, simultaneously broadcast live on TNT and streaming on the B/R Sports Add-On on Max. Practice and qualifying for the remainder of the season will stream on Max and air on truTV.

Teaming up with FRM, Michael McDowell and the team at SKIL, we’re ready to make this year’s ballpark celebration and race weekend even more unforgettable for fans.”

SKIL, an innovative electric power tool brand founded in Chicago in 1924, will be featured as an associate sponsor aboard McDowell’s No. 34 entry. Celebrating 100 years of innovation including the original worm drive Saw that Built America and current lineup of cordless power tools and outdoor power equipment, SKIL’s presenting sponsorship of White Sox NASCAR Day further highlights the brand’s deep community roots while revving up excitement for the two-day racing event.

“This is an exciting opportunity to have the Chicago White Sox on the No. 34 car and with the team for the NASCAR Chicago Street Race,” said McDowell. “Having family from the Chicago area, baseball always has been a part of my life. This partnership is great for fans of Front Row Motorsports and the White Sox and is a way to celebrate Chicago sports culture together.”

The 39-year-old McDowell joined Front Row Motorsports in 2018. Through seven seasons and more than 200 career Cup starts with the organization, including winning the 2021 DAYTONA 500, the 2023 Verizon 200 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and two appearances in the Cup Series Playoffs, he has been a force in the racing world. This season, McDowell won the pole at Atlanta and Talladega and started on the front row for the Daytona 500. He has had back-to-back, Top-10 finishes in his past two races.

Returning for its second consecutive year, NASCAR Chicago Street Race Weekend attendees will be treated to two days of action-packed racing, top-tier musical performances, family-friendly activities, and more throughout Chicago’s iconic Grant Park. Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) announced recently that three-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion (NWMT) Justin Bonsignore will drive the team’s No. 19 Toyota GR Supra in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) on Saturday, June 22.

The June 22 race at NHMS will mark Bonsignore’s first career NXS start, but he is no stranger to the Magic Mile. The 36-year-old driver has made 25 NWMT starts there over the past 14 years. In those 25 races, he has two wins in points-paying events and one in a non-points race, along with 10 top-five finishes. His most recent New Hampshire win came last September.

“We’re thrilled to have Justin in our car at New Hampshire,” said Steve DeSouza, EVP NASCAR Xfinity Series/Development at JGR. “He’s a driver with a rich short-track racing resume and represents the heart of modified racing in the northeast. To put him in one of our cars at a track that he's built a legacy at is going to be a lot of fun for us, and even more so for the fans."

Bonsignore is a familiar face in the modified world with three tour championships and 41 NWMT wins since 2007. The Holtsville, New York native picked up his first NWMT championship in 2018 and followed it up with back-to-back championships in 2020 and 2021. Those 41 wins put him fourth on the all-time NWMT win list – just one win behind third. Bonsignore has 31 career tour pole awards, which also ranks fourth on the all-time list. The NWMT is four races into their 2024 campaign and Bonsignore has one victory, which came at Richmond Raceway in March. He is currently second in the tour standings, six points back from the lead.

“Having the opportunity to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing at New Hampshire is truly the chance of a lifetime,” Bonsignore said. “I love driving modifieds and that will always be my home, where we hope to win many more races and championships. But, having the opportunity to compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with such an established, winning organization like Joe Gibbs Racing is such an exciting chance on this national stage.”

Bonsignore will be running double duty at New Hampshire as he makes his NXS debut and then jumps into his modified to run the seventh race of the NWMT season. The NXS race at NHMS is scheduled for Saturday, June 22, at 3:30 PM ET. Coverage of the race will be on USA Network, PRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
