We head down to the Lone Star State this week with our guest who played at Texas from 1976-1979. Ricky Churchman joins us to talk about his Longhorn experience which included a National Title run in 1977 and one of the best defenses in NCAA history in 1979. Ricky was recruited by Darrell Royal and came to Texas for the 1976 season. He played in the game which was the last for both Coach Darrell Royal and Frank Broyles on December 4, 1976. Fred Akers came on the scene for the 1977 season and what a season it was. Texas was 11-0 after the regular season, but unfortunately lost to Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl. After a stellar 1979 season, Ricky was drafted in the 4th Round of the 1980 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He played for Coach Bill Walsh for two years before injuries ended his football career. We hope you enjoy this trip down to the Lone Star State in the late 1970s with our guest, Ricky Churchman.
