LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — West Chester University sits atop the 2018-19 Dixon Trophy standings following completion of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference fall championship season.

The trophy is awarded at the end of each academic year to the league’s most successful program based on conference playoff and/or regular-season finish. Standings are compiled based on average score for all PSAC Championship sports each school sponsors. Equal to its total membership, each conference sport champion is awarded 18 points and a descending point value is given for respective place finishes. The second- through last-place values vary depending on the number of teams that sponsor the sport.

WCU sports an average score of 14.89, participating in eight fall championship sports. The Golden Rams tallied 15 points or more in six sports. WCU won the field hockey championship for the second consecutive season and won the football title and Eastern Division. The Golden Rams laid claim to both golf titles. WCU landed the No. 1 seed in men’s soccer while claiming the No. 4 seed in women’s soccer.

Shippensburg sits second with an average of 13.29 points after claiming the women’s cross country championship and finishing second on the men’s side. SU volleyball advanced to the PSAC semifinals while its field hockey team played in the championship game.

Kutztown (11.43), Edinboro (11.15) and Millersville (10.75) round out the top five, respectively.
WCU sports a league-high average of 14.20 on the women’s side while leading the way on the men’s side with a 15.75 average.

In its 24th year of existence, the award is named in honor of F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former chairman of Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s Board of Governors. Seven different institutions have won the Dixon Trophy. SU has laid claim to the honor a league-best eight times, while WCU boasts four. Lock Haven and Bloomsburg have three titles apiece. California has two Dixon Trophy victories. KU, Slippery Rock, and Millersville have each won one Dixon Trophy.
Seven PSAC Championships will be contested in the 2018-19 winter season: men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s indoor track & field and wrestling. The next update of the Dixon Trophy standings will be released following the basketball championships in early March.
