NASCAR® and the U.S. Census Bureau announced today, during DAYTONA 500 Media Day, an Official Partnership designed to spread awareness and encourage participation in the once-a-decade national census. The 2020 Census counts every person living in the U.S., across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. Beginning in mid-March, most homes will receive an invitation to respond to a short questionnaire – online, by phone, or by mail.

As part of the strategic partnership, the Census Bureau will become the race entitlement partner of the NASCAR Xfinity Series™ race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The race is scheduled to run on Saturday, March 21 and will be broadcast nationally on FS1.

“The 2020 Census is here, and we are excited to partner with NASCAR to help spread the word about the importance of the census to shaping the future of communities across the country,” said Dr. Steven Dillingham, Director of the Census Bureau. “To ensure a complete and accurate count, we need everyone. NASCAR provides us with an excellent platform to educate the public and encourage them to respond this spring.”

The 2020 Census, which is mandated by the U.S. Constitution, is conducted by the Census Bureau, the federal government’s largest statistical agency. The statistics can be used to inform more than hundreds of billions of dollars to states and communities for services like fire stations, schools, and clinics every year for the next 10 years. It also determines how many seats in Congress each state receives.

In addition to its race entitlement sponsorship at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the Census Bureau will have at-track activation at Phoenix Raceway, Auto Club Speedway and Richmond Raceway. Additionally, an educational campaign will run across NASCAR’s Digital platforms and air across NASCAR programming on MRN.

Andretti Autosport team owner Michael Andretti, has confirmed today he will carry on the #CheckIt4Andretti message started by late cousin John Andretti.

“The #CheckIt4Andretti initiative was so important to John, and he helped save so many lives by sharing his fight,” said Michael Andretti. “We’re really proud and honored to keep the message going by carrying #CheckIt4Andretti on our cars and team uniforms this year. We’d like to thank Richard Petty Motorsports for their collaboration on the logo. We look forward to seeing it with them on the NASCAR grid as well. John will be missed deeply, but his legacy will go on.”

In May 2017, John Andretti went public with his fight against colon cancer by launching the #CheckIt4Andretti campaign to spread messaging on the importance of colon cancer screenings. The hashtag and John’s message were carried far and wide by the racing community with attention from INDYCAR, NASCAR, NHRA and sprint car communities. Andretti took pride in knowing he was helping others, even if the calling seemed unfair to his own personal health.

John Andretti died Jan. 30 after the long and public health battle. Despite his own pain, Andretti was committed to spreading the message of early screening as means of cancer prevention – a message that will now live on.

Three-time Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves will be the honorary chairman of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America’s (MSHFA) 32nd Annual Induction Ceremony Presented by Firestone on March 17, 2020 at the Shores Resort and Spa in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Castroneves will preside over the induction of NASCAR’s first-ever champion Red Byron (Historic), flat track impresario Chris Carr (Motorcycles), early motorcycle racer, promoter and publisher Floyd Clymer (At Large), driver, official and safety advocate Wally Dallenbach (Open Wheel), Rick Hendrick, one of NASCAR’s most successful owners (Stock Cars), Daytona 500 champion Tiny Lund (Historic), Can-Am and Rolex 24 At Daytona champion Jacky Ickx (Sports Cars), quarter-mile legend “Ohio George” Montgomery (Drag Racing), and Baja 1000 and SCORE World Champion Ivan “Ironman” Stewart (Off-Road Racing).

“It is a huge honor to be asked to be the honorary chairman for the 2020 induction class of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America,” Castroneves said. “When you look through the names in this prestigious fraternity, it is staggering to think of the combined talent represented. There are many members of this hall that have had a huge impact on my career, none more so than (1995 inductee) Roger Penske, and I hope to join them in the hall one day. It is going to be a great night for motorsports, and I am grateful for this opportunity.”

Castroneves certainly has put together a hall-of-fame-worthy career with his Indy 500 conquests in 2001, 2002 and 2009; his overall 30 IndyCar wins (12th all time), 51 poles, 93 podiums and 167 Top 10 finishes. He also has four wins in the Indy Lights series and one win each in the American Le Mans Series and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

“We are delighted to have Helio as honorary chairman of our 32nd Annual Induction Ceremony,” said MSHFA President George Levy. “From winning Indy to winning on Dancing with the Stars, few drivers have had as great an impact on American culture or can tell us as much about how to grow the sport with the public at large.”

Castroneves joined Team Penske in 2000 and quickly established himself as a force in American open wheel racing. In addition to his IndyCar wins, he was runner up for the IndyCar Series championship in 2002, 2008, 2013 and 2014. He became a fan favorite when, after his first IndyCar win at Belle Isle in Detroit in 2000, he climbed a fence and adopted the “Spider-Man” nickname.

In addition to the 32nd Annual Induction Ceremony Presented by Firestone, the MSHFA Induction Celebration also includes the annual Heroes of Horsepower presented by Toyota reception, Monday, March 16, at the MSHFA Museum, a Monday inductee Heritage Luncheon and Tuesday inductee breakfast.

Ford Performance Racing School has partnered with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) to become a primary sponsor of its No. 98 NASCAR Xfinity Series entry with driver Chase Briscoe.

The No. 98 Ford Performance Racing School Ford Mustang did debut Feb. 21-22 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and will be seen 15 more times as Briscoe competes for the Xfinity Series championship after winning rookie-of-the-year honors in 2019. The 25-year-old driver from Mitchell, Indiana, is a two-time Xfinity Series race winner and the 2016 ARCA Racing Series champion.

The partnership is Penn National’s first with a professional sports league and will center around a brand new, free-to-play, mobile game named NASCAR Finish Line, which offers users the chance to win a $50,000 jackpot every race.

In addition, NASCAR and Penn National have extended their long-standing race title sponsorship for the “Hollywood Casino 400” at Kansas Speedway through 2026, deepening the connection between the two entertainment companies. Complete rules have been released and registration is open for the upcoming Icebreaker 40 for combined modifieds and crate 602 sportsman mods at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday, March 21.

Rules for both divisions will mirror those of the Short Track Super Series (STSS), with permission granted to the speedway by STSS officials.

Pre-registrations are currently being accepted for the big Selinsgrove season-opening event with the registration forms and rules currently available for download on selinsgrovespeedway.com.

Drivers in both divisions will want to be sure to get their names on the pre-registry lists in order to be eligible for posted bonus money!

Any driver pre-registered by March 12 for the $24,000-plus Icebreaker 40 event will be eligible for a $500 bonus if he can take the win.

The 40-lap Icebreaker main is already offering a posted $5,000 winner’s share.

Likewise, any crate 602 sportsman modified driver who is pre-registered before March 12 will be eligible for a $200 bonus if they can take the win in the $1000-to-win contest.

The champion of the Icebreaker 40 will be a guaranteed qualifier for the October 3, 35th Anniversary Outlaw 200 at Fulton Speedway in Fulton, New York.

Drivers in both divisions will draw for heat starting positions before a redraw sets the front few starting rows for both main events.

Grandstand and pit gates will open at 11 am on March 21 with qualifying slated for 2 pm.

Adult general admission is set at $20 with grandstand reserved seats priced at an additional $2. Student general admission for ages 12 – 17 is just $15. Kids ages 11 and under will be admitted for free. Pit Passes are $40.

The first 410 sprint car show and super late model show of the year at Selinsgrove Speedway is set for one week later, as part of March Mayhem.
