The Angels brought him up to the big leagues in 1969 and he responded with a great season. He appeared in 45 games, saving 22 of them with an ERA of 1.36. Ken also finished 4th in the 1969 AL Rookie of the Year balloting. He was having another good season in 1970, when he hit Paul Blair with a pitch that broke Blair’s nose and sidelined him for several games.
